Role Summary

The Simulator Second in Command plays a crucial role in supporting internal and external customer pilots undergoing Recurrent, Initial, or generic training courses within the established training curriculum. The individual is responsible for maintaining required currency in assigned programs to competently act as the "Second-In-Command" during training sessions, particularly for clients training in multi-crew aircraft without a designated flying partner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as a competent Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients training in multi-crew aircraft, serving in a supportive capacity without performing instructional duties.
  • Maintains SIC pilot qualification in accordance with the requirements of assigned programs.
  • Ensures SIC qualification is maintained in accordance with FlightSafety International’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
  • Keeps all required certificates, ratings, and designations current to perform duties as an SIC.
  • Serves as SIC in various aircraft types for Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA clients as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) with two to three (2-3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior to commencing SIC duties, the applicant must possess a Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
  • Minimum of 450 flight hours required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Fluency in English, encompassing strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent cockpit verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with various customers.
  • Capability to adapt to changing schedules and high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency in a second language may be required at certain Learning Centers based on specific operational needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The employee is regularly required to use hands for tasks involving objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally. The role may involve standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and potentially tasting or smelling.

Specific physical requirements include:

  • Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder/anti-torque controls with both feet.
  • Ability to reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device.
  • Ability to enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
  • Ability to exit a malfunctioned simulator device while it is in a severely pitched attitude.

Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves working near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the employee may work in high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, and be exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical shock, radiation risks, and vibration. The typical noise level is moderate.
