Position Overview

Executive Jet Management, a proud member of the Berkshire Hathaway family, is actively recruiting qualified professionals for a Lead Pilot in Command (PIC) role operating a Gulfstream G550. This position is based at the St. Paul Downtown Airport (STP) in Minnesota. The role involves supporting a dedicated flight department comprising four pilots and two maintenance technicians, primarily conducting Part 91 operations with a focus on domestic destinations, supplemented by occasional international travel.

Note: This position is not commutable. Candidates are required to reside within a one-hour driving radius of STP Airport.

The Lead PIC functions as a peer leader within the designated flight department, emphasizing effective Crew Resource Management (CRM), superior client service, and diligent completion of administrative responsibilities. This leader actively participates in the flight schedule, adhering to all standard PIC duties and expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Flight Department Leadership and Administration

  • Cultivate and maintain robust client relationships, adeptly balancing client needs with EJM's operational requirements.
  • Engage in quarterly meetings with the client's Aircraft Committee to foster collaboration and strategic alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with assigned maintenance personnel to ensure punctual completion of all aircraft maintenance events, both scheduled and unscheduled, alongside routine tasks such as database updates and audits.
  • Oversee essential account management duties, including invoice review, vendor relations, charter approvals, and crew scheduling, in accordance with established EJM protocols.
  • Provide guidance and motivation to flight department crew members, promoting the achievement of departmental goals and upholding the EJM brand.
  • Escalate any concerns or issues promptly to the Regional Chief Pilot.
  • Manage all flight department administrative functions, including but not limited to, inventory management for office and aircraft supplies, subscription renewals, and intricate crew scheduling coordination with comprehensive crew communication.

Safe Flight Operations

  • Guarantee that all crewing and trip assignments rigorously adhere to company and regulatory mandates.
  • Execute all necessary flight planning, performance calculations, and weight and balance assessments for each flight assignment.
  • Lead required pre-flight briefings utilizing the Threats, Plans, and Considerations (TPC) methodology to proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Maintain strict compliance with EJM's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinate effectively with company personnel.
  • Serve as the designated Ground Security Coordinator and In-Flight Security Coordinator as stipulated by company policy.
  • Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections, verifying aircraft maintenance status to ensure mission readiness.
  • Document all aircraft discrepancies meticulously in accordance with company SOPs.
  • Monitor and ensure the completion of all aircraft ground servicing requirements, including fueling, oil, and oxygen, per SOPs.
  • Deliver comprehensive passenger briefings in strict accordance with company policy and regulations.
  • Provide an unparalleled level of customer service, attending to the specific needs of all passengers, including those with physical challenges.
  • Leverage Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) principles to ensure clear, timely, and effective communication with crew and support personnel during all phases of flight operations, including normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.

Exceptional Service Delivery

  • Deliver premium service experiences to aircraft owners and passengers, actively seeking opportunities for enhancement.
  • Investigate and resolve any service deviations efficiently and professionally.
  • Collaborate with fellow crew members and EJM internal departments to ensure a consistent and superior service experience for all clients.
  • Effectively manage and resolve conflicts and challenges in a constructive and acceptable manner.

Proficiency and Compliance Maintenance

  • Uphold all regulatory and company-mandated training requirements and recency of experience standards.
  • Adhere to the company's Safety Management System (SMS) program and report any safety concerns or non-compliance through the designated channels.
  • Ensure all crew members maintain the necessary qualifications to perform their assigned duties in accordance with regulations and company policy.
  • Verify that all crew members comply with company policies and that appropriate audits are in place and maintained.

Qualifications and Requirements

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid First Class Medical Certificate
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate
  • Valid U.S. Passport

Experience

  • 8-10 years of progressive aviation experience.
  • Prior Lead Captain experience in corporate or business aviation is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other (KSAOs)

  • FAA Type rating in the applicable fleet (Gulfstream G550).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential job functions of the position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of management experience; five (5) years preferred.
  • Minimum Flight Time Requirements:
    • Total Flight Time: 5,000 hours
    • Multi-Engine Land (MEL): 3,000 hours
    • Pilot in Command (PIC): 2,000 hours
    • PIC Multi-Engine Land (MEL): 500 hours
    • Instrument: 300 hours
    • Jet: 2,500 hours
  • International flight experience is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree
