Summary and Objective:

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for the accurate repair and scheduled maintenance of all aircraft, performing inspections as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role ensures the airworthiness and safety of the fleet through meticulous attention to detail and adherence to regulatory standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs regular maintenance on aircraft systems and components.
  • Manages projects, accurately estimating work time and materials required for assigned tasks.
  • Analyzes blueprints, drawings, work orders, and sketches to troubleshoot, repair, and install parts, identifying and correcting errors through established departmental channels.
  • Ensures the proper working condition of mechanical systems prior to flight operations.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and reports related to parts or services.
  • Inspects engines, wings, propellers, tails, and other aircraft parts for cracks, corrosion, and other defects.
  • Inspects hoses and lubricates joints, replacing any showing signs of wear or damage.
  • Consults maintenance manuals and specifications to identify correct procedures and specifications for replacements or repairs.
  • Installs new parts efficiently and according to specifications to replace or repair defective/recalled components or enhance aircraft performance.
  • Performs sheet metal repairs as needed.
  • Ensures proper function of engines and operating systems through various tests and tools.
  • Identifies and resolves mechanical problems based on visual inspections or reports from flight crew.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Familiarity with aviation maintenance tracking systems such as Corridor and CAMP.
  • Thorough knowledge of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR).
  • Scissor Lift Certified (Preferred).
  • Forklift Certified (Preferred).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor to other mechanics within the department.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this role, employees are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and elevated noise levels both inside and outside the hangar. Potential exposure includes a variety of extreme weather conditions and loud noises from aircraft machinery and jet engines.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to perform work on scaffolding or ladders.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity and physical strength to operate tools and make adjustments/repairs.
  • Must possess visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
  • Must have adequate hearing to test sounds and identify functioning levels of aircraft.

Dress Code and Uniform:

Requires a well-groomed appearance and adherence to the department dress code.

Travel Required:

Some travel may be required, typically less than 10%.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing hands-on Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems and their interactions.
  • Thorough knowledge of current FAA regulations, Inspections Procedures Manual (IPM), and Air Transport Association (ATA) codes.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States and provide two forms of Federal Identification.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment, including verification of previous employment, education, criminal history, and other relevant information.
  • This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive role under FAA regulations and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FAA guidelines.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing hands-on Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Prior experience utilizing the Corridor maintenance tracking system.
  • Candidates with Business Corporate Jet experience will be given priority.
