Job Summary and Objective:

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for accurately performing scheduled maintenance and required inspections on all company aircraft in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. This role ensures the airworthiness and safety of the fleet through diligent work and adherence to established procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs regular maintenance on aircraft.
  • Accurately estimates work time and materials for assigned tasks (Project Management).
  • Analyzes blueprints, drawings, work orders, and sketches to troubleshoot, repair, and install parts; detects and corrects errors through proper departmental channels.
  • Ensures proper working condition of mechanical systems before flight.
  • Maintains meticulous records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and related reports.
  • Inspects engines, wings, propellers, tails, and other components to identify defects such as cracks or corrosion.
  • Inspects hoses and lubricates joints; replaces components showing signs of wear.
  • Consults maintenance manuals and specifications to identify correct operations and specifications for replacements or repairs.
  • Installs new parts efficiently and to specifications.
  • Repairs sheet metal as needed.
  • Ensures proper function of engines and operating systems using various tests and tools.
  • Identifies and resolves mechanical problems based on visual inspections or reports from pilots or crew.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems and their interactions.
  • Thorough knowledge of current FAA regulations, IPM, and ATA codes.
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the United States (two forms of Federal Identification required).
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background check prior to employment.
  • This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive role under FAA regulations and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Prior experience with Corridor maintenance tracking software.
  • Prior experience with Business Corporate Jets is highly preferred.

Competencies:

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tracking software such as Corridor or CAMP.
  • Proficiency in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Proficient in using software to complete and maintain records.
  • Scissor Lift Certified (Preferred).
  • Forklift Certified (Preferred).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions within the department.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and loud noise levels inside and outside the hangar. Possible exposure to a variety of extreme weather conditions and loud noises, including airplane machinery and jet engines, is expected.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces.
  • Ability to perform work on scaffolding or ladders.
  • Ability to frequently lift and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and physical strength to operate tools and make adjustments/repairs.
  • Visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
  • Ability to hear well enough to test sounds and identify the functioning level of aircraft.

Dress Code:

Adherence to department dress code with a well-groomed appearance is required.

Travel:

Some travel is required, less than 10%.
