Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Flight Operations, the Engineering Test Pilot is a pivotal role responsible for conducting comprehensive ground and flight testing for aircraft development and certification purposes. This individual will also provide essential technical expertise in the creation of flight manuals and operational documents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop test plans, ensure test readiness, and conduct safety of flight reviews for all test operations.
  • Serve as Pilot-In-Command for developmental and certification flight tests on experimental airplanes.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with engineering and project teams regarding the planning, execution, and results of all tests.
  • Adhere strictly to company protocols, Transport Canada rules, and regulations, while promoting the safe operation of equipment using effective risk mitigation methods.
  • Support the preliminary design review process, providing expertise on pilot interface and human factors considerations.
  • Contribute technical proficiency concerning flight test and aircraft operational matters to support design development.
  • Oversee and audit the technical accuracy of all test procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership as project pilot to other test pilots and flight test engineers assigned to the same program.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all pilot/operational issues throughout the program.
  • Review and provide detailed input on flight manuals, flight manual supplements, pilot manuals, and other technical engineering reports. Often serves as the designated 'Project Pilot' for specific product lines.
  • Conduct briefings for company management reviews, Transport Canada, the FAA, and other relevant certification authorities.
  • Maintain a direct liaison with the test pilot group at Transport Canada, addressing technical and schedule issues as they arise.
  • Generate detailed written reports documenting test results and identifying any aircraft or system discrepancies.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of all required pre and post-flight documentation.
  • Complete all post-flight duties, including notifying the company of the aircraft's location when away from base, and recording flight times and any defects as assigned.
  • Actively participate in pre- and post-flight crew briefings.
  • Provide support for daily operational activities.
  • Conduct international sales and marketing demonstration flights.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid Airline Transport Pilot License (TC, FAA, or EASA) with a rating on a large turbo-prop aircraft type.
  • Minimum of 4,000 hours of total flying time, including at least 1,000 hours of command time on a large turbo-prop aircraft.
  • Extensive experience as a DAD/DER Test Pilot, with a strong understanding of TC, FAA, or EASA flight test procedures and requirements, with a minimum of ten (10) years of flight test and certification experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage an aircraft crew while fostering positive and cooperative relationships with the crew, management, and customers.
  • Capacity and willingness to work irregular hours, workdays, and travel on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited test pilot school (USAF, Navy, French, Empire, or National Test Pilot School).
  • Prior experience with De Havilland products (e.g., Twin Otter, DHC-8, CL 215/415).
  • International operations experience.
