As Assistant Pilot, this role will assist with safely supporting the operation of the Company aircraft and will be required to effectively communicate with the Corporate Pilot as well as others involved in flight operations such as passengers, maintenance, scheduling and additional aviation personnel. This role assists the Corporate Pilot as directed and requires participation in overall flight department activities in order to achieve its objectives.

Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Ensures the safe and efficient operations of the flight to which they are assigned
  • Maintains a culture of safety with efficient procedures that support Company’s safety objectives and initiatives
  • Complies with all regulations and Cleveland-Cliffs policies for the operation of the flight
  • Ensures the aircraft to which they are assigned is properly equipped and in compliance with the regulations of the FAA standards.
  • Completes all forms required for the flight to which they are assigned
  • Follows Cleveland-Cliffs policies at destination airports for the purchase of fuel, security of aircraft, all matters of liaison with passengers, the dispatch officer, and other agencies
  • Assists in the plans and conducts flights in compliance with company operations manual and applicable federal, domestic, and international flight regulations while upholding the highest safety standards and practices
  • Makes regular checks on the aircraft's technical performance to ensure proper maintenance efficient and safe operation
  • Will operate all aircraft under relevant Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Must maintain appropriate federal and aviation certifications
  • Monitoring weather conditions and communicating with air traffic control during flights
  • Liaising with co-pilots and flight crew throughout the flight
  • Determining the safest routes and analyzing flight plans prior to takeoff
  • Anticipating issues and maintaining professionalism during emergencies

Education & Experience:

  • Preferred Bachelor's / Associate’s degree in relevant field such as aviation, mathematics, sciences or technical studies
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strong customer service skills, high attention to detail, adaptable, and accountable
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to function under pressure
  • Previous Corporate experience (preferred)
  • Current with: FAA Certifications, FAA First Class Physical
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant flight experience
  • Willingness to work nonstandard schedule, which may include weekends and holidays
  • Valid US Passport
