Position Overview
Cape Air seeks highly qualified aviation professionals for the role of Air Transport Flight Instructor (ATFI) within its Part 135 training department. This is a full-time position based in Hyannis, MA. Compensation for this role adheres to the provisions of the pilot Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Role Summary
The Air Transport Flight Instructor (ATFI) is responsible for delivering comprehensive ground, simulator, and flight instruction to company pilots, as determined by the Director of Flight Training. The ATFI must demonstrate proficiency in conducting flight training from both the left and right pilot seats during initial evaluations and recurrent checks conducted by an FAA inspector or Company Check Pilot, at least biennially. Successful completion of Cape Air's initial ground school and aircraft-specific flight training, including 135.293 and 135.297 checks, is mandatory. Continued maintenance of ATFI qualifications necessitates annual recurrent training and checking.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Deliver exceptional ground, simulator, and flight instruction to company pilots, strictly adhering to the Cape Air flight training manual.
- Identify trainee deficiencies and develop effective solutions.
- Ensure accurate completion of all required documentation and maintain clear communication within the training department regarding trainee progress.
- Provide support to the Director of Flight Training on various duties as required.
- Execute initial, recurrent, upgrade, and requalification pilot training, specifically for the Cessna 402 aircraft.
- Maintain absolute currency with all pertinent Cape Air PIC flight crew training and qualification standards.
- Uphold the core values of Cape Air by consistently demonstrating safe, courteous, professional, and on-time air service.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating.
- Current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate (not applicable for simulator-only instructors).
- Possession of a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) written exam is preferred.
- Profound knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), company operating manuals, Operations Specifications (OpSpecs), and aircraft systems.
- Meets all training and currency requirements necessary to serve as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
- Proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to execute administrative duties as required.
