About the Role

A leading regional airline, Cape Air, is seeking a well-qualified and dedicated Air Transport Flight Instructor (ATFI) to join its dynamic Part 135 training department. Based in Hyannis, MA, this full-time position offers a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of pilots within the company.

The ATFI operates under the strategic direction of the Director of Flight Training, delivering comprehensive ground, simulator, and in-flight instruction to company pilots. This critical role demands the ability to conduct flight training proficiently from both the left and right pilot seats, with demonstrated capability to FAA inspectors or Company check pilots during initial evaluations and every two years thereafter. Successful candidates will complete Cape Air's initial ground school and aircraft-specific flight training, ensuring strict adherence to FAR 135.293 and 135.297 checkride requirements. Continuous professional development is paramount, with annual recurrent training and checking essential to maintain ATFI qualifications.

Compensation for this position is in accordance with the pilot Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Key Responsibilities

The Flight Instructor will be responsible for a variety of essential duties, including but not limited to:

  • Enthusiastically conducting ground, simulator, and flight instruction for company pilots in strict accordance with the Cape Air flight training manual.
  • Proactively reviewing trainee deficiencies, providing constructive feedback, and offering effective solutions for improvement.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely completion of all required training department paperwork and communications regarding trainee progress.
  • Providing comprehensive support to the Director of Flight Training by assisting with various departmental duties as needed.
  • Conducting initial, recurrent, upgrade, and requalification pilot training, specifically for the Cessna 402 aircraft.
  • Maintaining current status in all applicable Cape Air Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight crew training and qualification requirements.
  • Upholding and representing the Cape Air spirit through the consistent provision of Safe, Courteous, Professional, and On-Time air service.

Required Qualifications

Prospective candidates must meet the following stringent qualifications:

  • Possession of an Airplane Multi-Engine Land Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • Hold a current FAA 1st Class Medical Certificate. (Note: This requirement may not apply to simulator-only instructors).
  • A Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) exam is preferred.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), company operating manuals, Operations Specifications (OpSpecs), and relevant aircraft systems.
  • Ability to meet and maintain all training and currency requirements necessary to serve as a Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
  • Proficiency and comfort with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Willingness and capability to perform necessary administrative duties.

This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) clearance and enrollment in a Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated Anti-Drug and Alcohol Testing Program (DATP), in full compliance with the FAA Code of Federal Regulations.
