Assistant Chief Pilot
Calm Air International is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join its team as an Assistant Chief Pilot. Based in Winnipeg, MB, the Assistant Chief Pilot will support the Chief Pilot in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of flights throughout Manitoba and the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut. This is a full-time, salaried position with an immediate start date.
The Assistant Chief Pilot will play a crucial role in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), onboarding and training new pilots, and providing ongoing support to the flight operations department. They will act as the first line of support for pilots, working closely with Crew Scheduling and the System Operations Control Center (SOCC) to achieve departmental goals.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitoring flight time, duty times, qualifications, and currency of pilots.
- Assisting in the investigation of Safety Management System (SMS) reports and implementing corrective actions.
- Developing and maintaining the Calm Air International SMS Program within Flight Operations, in cooperation with the SMS Manager.
- Assisting in the management and optimization of VMO, Pelesys, and Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) systems.
- Coordinating orientation and training for new pilot hires.
- Ordering pilot uniforms.
- Maintaining monthly expiry reports and providing them to Crew Scheduling.
- Guiding and mentoring new and existing pilots.
- Participating in the recruitment and selection of pilot team members.
- Promoting occupational health and safety within the department.
- Proactively communicating hazards and SMS initiatives.
- Overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives.
- Actively identifying hazards and deficiencies and reporting them through the SMS program.
Skills and Experience:
- Commercial Pilot License with previous experience at a 705 airline.
- Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) preferred.
- Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
- Previous supervisory or management experience is an asset.
- Superior interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Utmost integrity, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Ability to build relationships and trust across all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel for extended periods.
- Must hold a current valid passport or a Canadian Permanent Resident card.
- Inuktitut language skills are considered an asset.
- Preference will be given to Inuit Land Claims Beneficiaries.
