Aviation Instructor and Examiner (Third-Person Job Description)
Overview of the Role
The Aviation Instructor and Examiner is a highly qualified professional responsible for delivering superior training services, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory compliance, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and instruction for pilot trainees. This role requires extensive aviation experience, exceptional instructional capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining current industry certifications and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. License and Authority Management
- The Instructor/Examiner is responsible for diligently maintaining all personal licenses, ratings, and instructional proficiency (“currency”), including medical fitness certification (if applicable), necessary to fulfill assigned instructional duties.
- Ensuring the validity of any approval granted by a relevant Aviation Authority prior to conducting any training activities that necessitate exercising the privileges of that specific approval is mandatory.
2. Regulatory Compliance and Adherence
- The professional must strictly adhere to all organizational (e.g., ECFT/CAE) policies and operational procedures when executing any training function, activity, or lesson plan.
- Compliance with all regulations and procedures relevant to Authority-approved training programs, as they pertain to all training functions, activities, or lesson plans, is required.
3. Briefing and Debriefing Excellence
- Conducting all simulator briefings and training sessions in a comprehensive and supportive manner to ensure the maximum training benefits are achieved for the trainee pilot.
- Accurately documenting any deviations from required Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maneuvers, or regulatory guidelines, and engaging in constructive discussions regarding these findings with the trainee pilot during the mandatory simulator debriefing.
4. Training Delivery and Development
- Reviewing the client’s Training and Checking Authorization form prior to commencing any instructional activity.
- Providing expert simulator instruction on one or more assigned aircraft types, necessitating instructional sessions of four or more hours, exclusive of briefing and debriefing time.
- Conducting professional and thorough pre- and post-flight simulator briefings.
- Delivering effective classroom instruction utilizing various methodologies, including but not limited to Simfinity, Computer-Based Training (CBT), Interactive Pilot Training (IPT), or traditional stand-up lectures, which may require sustained periods (8 to 10 hours) of standing and/or sitting.
- If specifically assigned, the Instructor/Examiner shall support the crucial development and certification processes for training curriculum and instructional devices, including Full Flight Simulators (FFS), Flight Training Devices (FTDs), and Flight Management System (FMS) training aids.
- Candidates assigned to ground school instruction must obtain the necessary FAA/EASA ground school and simulator instructor designations within approximately 12 months of assignment.
- The professional must acquire the requisite qualifications to serve officially as an Examiner and perform associated examiner duties under the relevant aviation authority for the designated aircraft fleet.
- Delivering Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training for both stand-alone courses and multi-pilot operations on Single Pilot High-Performance Complex Aeroplanes (SPHPCA) types, strictly in accordance with personal instructor certification (if applicable).
5. Operational Support and Administration
- Performing required seat support duties as dictated by operational necessity.
- Completing essential administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate training records, recommending targeted remedial training when necessary, and diligently tracking personal instructional qualifications.
- Preparing and inspecting all classroom facilities and training equipment prior to the commencement of each training day to ensure operational readiness.
- Formally recommending candidates for licensing checks based on observed training performance and verifiable readiness.
- When assigned, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the creation, review, and validation of curriculum content and courseware materials.
- The Instructor/Examiner may be assigned other duties as required by management to meet operational objectives.
