Aviation Training Specialist & Flight Simulation Instructor (Pilot)
Overview of the Role
The Aviation Training Specialist serves a crucial function in delivering world-class pilot training, ensuring the highest standards of regulatory compliance, instructional quality, and operational excellence within the flight simulation environment. This specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive simulator and classroom instruction, maintaining essential professional credentials, and actively contributing to the overall success of client training programs.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Professional Licensing and Regulatory Adherence
- Maintains all personal licenses, ratings, and instructor pilot (IP) currency, including medical fitness (if applicable), necessary for performing assigned instructional duties.
- Ensures the validity of all regulatory approvals granted by relevant Aviation Authorities prior to conducting any training activities that require exercising the privileges of said approval.
Compliance and Operational Standards
- Adheres meticulously to all corporate policies and procedures at the operational level when executing training functions, activities, and lesson plans.
- Complys strictly with all regulations and procedures related to Authority-approved programs as they pertain to all aspects of training, including functions, activities, and specific lesson plans.
Briefing, Debriefing, and Documentation
- Conducts all simulator briefings and subsequent training sessions in a professional, thorough, and positive manner to maximize the training benefits and proficiency gain for the trainee pilot.
- Accurately documents any observed deviations from required Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), specific procedures, or maneuvers. These deviations are subsequently discussed constructively with the trainee pilot during the post-session simulator debriefing.
Instructional Delivery and Training Development
- Reviews and verifies the client’s Training and Checking Authorization form prior to the commencement of any scheduled training activity.
- Provides expert simulator instruction on one or more assigned aircraft types, dedicating four or more hours per session within the simulator, exclusive of pre- and post-session briefing time.
- Delivers pre- and post-flight simulator briefings in a thorough and highly professional manner.
- Provides comprehensive classroom instruction utilizing various methodologies, including computer-based training (CBT), interactive training platforms (IPT), Simfinity systems, or traditional stand-up lectures, requiring flexibility for 8 to 10 hours of standing or sitting in the classroom environment.
- Supports the development and certification of advanced training curriculum and training devices, including Full Flight Simulators (FFS), Flight Training Devices (FTDs), and Flight Management System (FMS) training aids, when assigned.
- If assigned to ground school duties, actively pursues and obtains the required FAA/EASA ground school and simulator instructor designations within the stipulated timeframe (approximately 12 months).
- Acquires all necessary qualifications to serve competently as an Aviation Examiner and performs examiner duties under the relevant authority for the assigned aircraft fleet.
- Delivers Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training for both stand-alone courses and multi-pilot operations on Specific High Performance Complex Aircraft (SPHPCA) types, subject to individual instructor certification (if applicable).
Administrative and Support Functions
- Performs essential seat support duties as required by the training schedule.
- Manages miscellaneous tasks, including meticulous maintenance of training records, tracking personal instructional qualifications, and recommending remedial training when necessary to ensure trainee progression.
- Prepares and inspects all classroom facilities and training equipment prior to the start of each training day to ensure optimal learning conditions.
- Recommends eligible candidates for regulatory licensing checks based on demonstrated training performance and established readiness criteria.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the creation and review of curriculum and courseware, when assigned, contributing technical expertise to training content development.
