About This Role

By joining our team of military trained instructor pilots, you will be helping to create a dynamic and exciting environment for students learning to fly and operate the G120TP trainer.

During the build-up to commencement of training, the BFT Instructor Pilot will be closely involved in leading a team of BFT CQFIs in the design and development of the pilot training system for the future of the RCAF. This will entail:

+ Undertaking aircraft type conversion training;

+ Supporting the design and development of courseware, including classroom-based, synthetic training device-based and live flying training sequences;

+ Supporting acceptance testing of courseware, synthetic training devices and aircraft;

+ Supporting the establishment of an integrated training centre through the development of policy and procedure documents; and

+ Supporting the integration and testing of various Information Management systems (e.g. Learning).

+ Testing of the synthetic training devices’ lesson plans and G120TP air lesson plans (ALPs)

BFT Instructor Pilot Roles and Responsibilities :

Once steady state training has commenced, the BFT Instructor Pilot will be responsible to maintain an instructional category as a CQFI, including the following tasks:

+ Deliver training in the classroom, on synthetic training devices, and in our G120TP aircraft;

+ Maintain flying proficiency, category and currency in accordance with applicable orders (B-GA-100, RCAF FOM, 2 CFFTS Orders and CQFI SOW);

+ Execute instructional sorties in accordance with RCAF instructional doctrine;

+ Be able to execute all missions in the BFT syllabus, including cross country and/or out and back missions;

+ Assist the flight commander in monitoring instructor continuity of assigned students as required;

+ Prepare and conduct presentations/briefings on instructional topics to include A Category ground school as applicable;

+ Follow CAF Flight Safety program and protocols in accordance with A-GA-135-001/AA-001 – Flight Safety for the Canadian Armed Forces manual;

+ Support the customer in writing, maintaining and reviewing procedures, manuals and other documents as required;

+ Support OA and TA organizations both internally and externally as a subject matter expert;

+ Participate in routine, periodic reviews of courseware and procedures;

+ Contribute to the ongoing improvement and maintenance of courseware; and

+ May be assigned to perform Maintenance Test Pilot duties as required.

All CQFIs must be qualified to instruct students on Clearhood, Instrument, Navigation, Formation and Composite missions as depicted in the appropriate training program and as applicable to the CQFI’s assigned duties. CQFIs may also be required to work in Standards, to conduct staff development, and/or conduct QFI training based on demonstrated performance.

BFT Instructor Pilot Currency Requirements :

+ As the Instructor Pilot, you are responsible for you and your team’s maintenance of RCAF currency and proficiency requirements including, but not limited to:

+ Aeromedical Training IAW CADO 5-301;

+ Spatial Disorientation Training;

+ Centrifuge Training;

+ Escape Systems/Ground Egress Training;

+ ALSE Training;

+ Sea Survival Training;

+ Air Operations Survival – Land;

+ Servicing Training for Cross-Country flights;

+ Certification with St John’s Ambulance in first aid training including CPR and AED; and

+ Fire prevention and fire extinguisher training every four years.

BFT Instructor Pilot Candidate Requirements:

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

+ For candidates with NO prior military experience:

+ A minimum of 500 hours of flying time in a single pilot, high performance aeroplane, and

+ Hold a Transport Canada (TC) commercial pilot’s licence

+ Hold, or have held, a TC instructor rating

+ For instructor pilots WITH prior military experience:

+ Demonstrate military experience with an acceptable Prior Learning Assessment Requirement completed

+ All candidates must be fluent in English in regards to reading, writing and oral communication

+ Military or professional flying experience within the last 10 years;

+ Maintain an unrestricted TC category 1 medical and any additional medical exams as required by the RCAF;

+ Body weight and anthropometric measurements must be within the limits of the aircraft to be flown.

BFT Instructor Pilot Desired Qualifications/Experience:

The following are preferred qualifications:

+ Previous NFTC QFI or Grob G120TP QFI experience;

+ Previous flying supervisory / military flight leadership experience;

+ Flight lead experience in a trainer or fighter aircraft;

+ Experience in military instruction;

+ RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre (RAWC) Operational Test and Evaluation Course (or RCAF-recognized equivalent qualification); and

+ Verbal French skills.

Candidate must successfully pass a security evaluation per the requirements of the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and to CAE being able to obtain all necessary re-transfer authorization in compliance with US ITAR regulations.
