Aviation Instructor
About the Role
The Aviation Instructor plays a critical role in delivering high-quality pilot training programs. This position involves maintaining essential qualifications, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and providing comprehensive instruction in both simulator and classroom environments.
Key Responsibilities
License and Authority Approval Maintenance
- Maintain personal pilot licenses, ratings, and operational proficiency, including medical fitness where applicable, to effectively perform assigned duties.
- Verify the validity of any Authority-granted approval before conducting training that requires exercising the privileges of that approval.
Compliance and Adherence
- Execute all training functions, activities, and lesson plans in strict accordance with CAE policies and procedures at the operational level.
- Comply with all applicable regulations and procedures for Authority-approved programs related to training functions, activities, or lesson plans.
Briefing and Debriefing
- Conduct all simulator briefings and training sessions in a thorough and positive manner, aiming to maximize training benefits for trainee pilots.
- Accurately document any deviations from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), procedures, or maneuvers and discuss these comprehensively with the trainee pilot during simulator debriefings.
Training Delivery and Development
- Review client Training and Checking Authorization forms prior to commencing any training.
- Provide simulator instruction on one or more aircraft types, with sessions requiring a minimum of four hours in the simulator, excluding briefing and debriefing time.
- Conduct pre- and post-flight simulator briefings in a thorough and professional manner.
- Deliver classroom instruction through various methods including Simfinity, Computer-Based Training (CBT), Interactive Phase Training (IPT), or stand-up lectures, which may involve 8 to 10 hours of standing and/or sitting.
- If assigned, support the development and certification of training curriculum and devices, such as simulators, Flight Training Devices (FTDs), and Flight Management System (FMS) training aids.
- If assigned to ground school, obtain FAA/EASA ground school and simulator instructor designation within approximately 12 months.
- Acquire necessary qualifications to serve as an examiner and perform examiner duties under the relevant authority for the assigned aircraft fleet.
- Perform seat support duties as required.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks, including maintaining training records, recommending remedial training as necessary, and tracking personal instructional qualifications.
- Prepare and inspect classroom facilities and equipment prior to the commencement of each training day.
- Recommend candidates for licensing checks based on observed training performance and readiness.
- If assigned, act as a subject matter expert in the creation and review of curriculum and courseware.
- Deliver Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training for stand-alone courses and multi-pilot operations on specific aircraft types, as per instructor certification requirements (if applicable).
