Position Overview

Buffalo Airways Limited is actively recruiting for the challenging and vital role of an Aerial Fire Fighting Pilot. In this capacity, the pilot will be responsible for the operation of various fixed-wing aircraft, including the L-188 Electra, CL-215, Turbo Commanders, King Air 100, C90A, and AT802 Fireboss, to combat wildfires. This position demands proficiency in low-altitude, high-speed flight through rugged terrain, requiring precise water or fire retardant drops on active fires. The role is both physically and mentally demanding, necessitating superior flying skills, robust decision-making capabilities, and a profound commitment to environmental preservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively operate designated aircraft for wildfire suppression missions.
  • Adhere to established tactics and procedures for aerial firefighting operations.
  • Collaborate with ground crews and other aerial assets to ensure efficient fire containment.
  • Monitor meteorological conditions, communicating any significant changes or potential hazards to the team.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date flight logs, reports, and required documentation.
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections and pre-flight checks to ensure aircraft airworthiness.
  • Uphold strict adherence to all applicable safety regulations and aviation standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 1000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and 1500 total flight hours (specific hour requirements may vary by aircraft type).
  • Possession of a Commercial Pilot License with an instrument rating.
  • Valid ATPL or IATRA certification.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in aerial firefighting, forestry operations, or related aerial work.
  • Demonstrated exceptional flying skills and the capacity for rapid decision-making in high-pressure environments.
  • Thorough understanding of aviation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Proven ability to function effectively within a team, with strong communication skills for interaction with ground crews and fellow pilots.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and adapt to diverse weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness to meet the rigorous demands of the role.
  • A float endorsement is considered advantageous.
  • Current Medical Certificate.
  • Valid Driver's License and Current Passport.
