Director of Training

Location: Corporate Headquarters - San Marcos, TX

Overview

The Director of Training (DOT) is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and oversight of all training programs for company employees and contract personnel. This role ensures that training initiatives meet all company, regulatory, and industry requirements through the effective management of courseware, materials, facilities, and processes. The DOT provides leadership for all training department functions and serves as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, external vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all training activities for company personnel and contractors to ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain training programs aligned with organizational needs, Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), and industry best practices.
  • Author and manage training manuals, courseware, instructional aids, and departmental documentation.
  • Establish training department standards, processes, and performance metrics to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Supervise, recruit, and develop training and administrative staff, providing recommendations for staffing within budget parameters.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for government oversight agencies and manage relationships with external training service providers.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to align training services with operational requirements.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an instructor pilot and/or check pilot within an FAA certificated air carrier training program, or equivalent experience (e.g., Part 142 training center, military aviation, or other government aviation agency).
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated leadership or management experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience as a Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, or Director of Training within the aviation industry.
  • 5,000+ hours total flight time, including 2,000+ hours Pilot in Command in turboprops, turbojets, and/or transport category aircraft requiring more than one crewmember.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in aviation, training, education, management, or a related field.

Skills and Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and aviation training/testing standards.
  • Experience in aviation-related research and technical documentation authoring.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and capacity to learn proprietary software systems.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is primarily based in an office, classroom, and training environment. Occasional travel is required to operational sites or regulatory meetings. Candidates must have the ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks such as typing. Minimal physical exertion is required.
