UAV Pilot / Survey & CAD Technician

Project Overview:

This position is based at the significant Louisiana LNG project near Lake Charles, Louisiana. This large-scale facility involves the construction of an LNG production and export terminal, including processing units, substantial LNG storage tanks (235,000m³ each), marine berths, and associated infrastructure, representing a critical energy sector development.

Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a skilled UAV Pilot / Survey & CAD Technician to play a pivotal role in supporting critical survey and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) operations for a major construction project. This position focuses on the technical administration of survey work requests and the comprehensive management of the project's UAV mission program. The role involves essential tasks such as calibrating survey instruments, reviewing technical computations, preparing detailed drawings, and providing crucial technical support to ensure the precision, accuracy, and efficiency of both traditional survey and advanced drone-based data collection activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the survey team with the implementation of project safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Provide valuable technical support to Office Surveyors.
• Instrumental in the implementation and administration of the Survey Work Request program.
• Support the implementation and administration of the UAV Mission Request program.
• Ensure that survey office calculations are completed accurately and support the construction schedule.
• Develop and maintain survey data.
• Review and approve data from field crews, ensuring all survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted promptly.
• Provide technical support, including processing survey data and preparing high-quality deliverables following survey industry best practices.
• Assist with the verification of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary control points.
• Identify underground services and maintain accurate as-built drawings for excavation permitting.
• Prepare survey CAD drawings, including generating Digital Terrain Models (DTM), and performing volume computations.
• Provide Civil project completion data and documentation, including "As-Built" records.
• Plan and execute the project's UAV/Drone program, taking full responsibility for the overall quality and integrity of aerial data acquisition.
• Actively pilot UAVs and supervise other pilots.
• Manage the submission and quality control of photogrammetric images and data captured from flights.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) with 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

• Experience is required in managing drawing office data registers and repositories.
• Extensive experience working within a 3D digital design environment is mandatory, including detailed working knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit, and AutoCAD modeling software.
• Familiarity with developing designs within project models using appropriate software tools (families, systems) is necessary.
• Experience validating as-built information against client requirements is essential.
• Previous experience using the BIM 360 Collaboration solution is considered a plus.
• Experience in the production of architectural and engineering designs and drawings is highly valued.

Physical Demands:

This position may require physically demanding field inspections. This includes, but is not limited to, extensive walking across construction sites, often in challenging weather conditions (high heat, humidity), climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms and uneven surfaces, and operating in small or confined spaces. The ability to perform some lifting may be required. Candidates must be capable of safely entering and exiting the project site and utilizing all required standard Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.
