Role and Responsibilities

Amentum instructors are committed to teaching, coaching, and mentoring student pilots through rigorous training programs designed to prepare them for their future careers as military aviators. While flight training inherently involves risk, safety is the paramount principle that underpins every aspect of the company's Rotary Wing Flight Training culture. With an exceptional safety record encompassing over 2.5 million hours of flight instruction, Amentum instructors conduct training operations within an expansive area of more than 40,000 square miles of the National Airspace System.

Minimum Pilot Qualifications

  • Possession of an ICAO equivalent or FAA commercial pilot certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA flight instructor certificate. This must include rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings on both certificates. Alternatively, a graduate of any DOD rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft will be considered.
  • Total Flight Time: A minimum of 1500 flight hours. Flight time credited includes hours as pilot-in-command or second-in-command (as defined by FAR 61.51) and hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) (as defined by AR 95-1) in any aircraft weight or category.
  • Instrument Flight Experience: Certification of a combined total of 100 hours in hooded instrument flight, flight simulator instrument training, or weather pilot time.
  • Instructional Experience: Documented experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
  • Night Flying: A minimum of 75 hours of night flying experience.
  • Instructor Time: A minimum of 500 hours of instructional flight time.
  • Medical Certificate: Must hold a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to the commencement of training.
  • Basic Warfighter Skills (if applicable): Applicants for Basic Warfighter Skills must be certified Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and possess 200 hours of NVG flight time.
  • Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to provide documentation to verify this status.
