Position Summary
Helicopter Pilot Instructors will provide comprehensive academic instruction and hands-on flight training in the UH-72 helicopter. This critical role involves teaching, coaching, and mentoring student pilots through intensive training programs meticulously designed to prepare them for future roles as military aviators. While conducting flight instruction within a vast 40,000-square-mile area of the National Airspace System, instructors are expected to uphold the paramount importance of safety in every aspect of the Rotary Wing Flight Training culture. Military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is not a prerequisite for this position.
Minimum Pilot Qualifications
Candidates for the Helicopter Pilot (Instructor) position must meet the following stringent requirements:
- Possession of an ICAO equivalent or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, and an ICAO equivalent or FAA Flight Instructor Certificate, both with Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class, and Instrument Helicopter Ratings. Alternatively, graduates of any Department of Defense (DoD) rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft will be considered.
- A minimum of 1,500 total flight hours. Flight time as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command (SIC) (per FAR 61.51), or as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) (Per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable.
- Certification of a combination of 100 hours in hooded instrument flight, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
- Demonstrated experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
- A minimum of 75 hours of night flying experience.
- A minimum of 500 hours of instructor time.
- Possession of a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to commencing training.
- For Basic Warfighter Skills Applicants: Must be certified Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and possess 200 hours of NVG time.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to provide proof of such authorization.
