The Opportunity

Helicopter Pilot Instructors at Amentum play a critical role in shaping the next generation of military aviators. The instructors teach, coach, and mentor student pilots through an intensive training curriculum meticulously designed to prepare them for their future operational roles. While recognizing the inherent risks of flight training, Amentum places paramount importance on safety in every facet of its Rotary Wing Flight Training culture. Instructors conduct flight operations and instruction within an expansive area covering more than 40,000 square miles of the National Airspace System.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert academic and practical flight instruction for student pilots operating the UH-72 Lakota helicopter.
• Mentor and coach aspiring military aviators, guiding them through rigorous training programs.
• Ensure adherence to the highest safety standards across all rotary wing flight training activities.
• Conduct comprehensive flight instruction within designated areas of the National Airspace System.

Minimum Pilot Qualifications

Candidates for the Helicopter Pilot Instructor position must meet the following stringent qualifications:

• Possess an ICAO equivalent or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class, and Instrument Helicopter ratings on both certificates. Alternatively, candidates may be graduates of any Department of Defense (DOD) rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft.
• Accumulate a minimum of 1500 hours of total flight time. This requirement credits flight time as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command (SIC) per FAR 61.51, or as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) per AR 95-1, in aircraft of any weight or category.
• Certify a combination of 100 hours of hooded instrument flight, flight simulator instrument time, or actual weather pilot time.
• Demonstrate prior experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
• Possess a minimum of 75 hours of night flying experience.
• Accumulate a minimum of 500 hours of instructor time.
• Hold a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to commencing training.
• For Basic Warfighter Skills Applicants: Must be certified Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified with 200 hours of NVG time.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to provide verifiable proof of such authorization.
