Position Overview

Amentum is actively seeking applications for the pivotal role of Helicopter Pilot (Instructor), stationed at Fort Novosel, Alabama. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive flight instruction in the UH-72 helicopter. This is an exceptional opportunity for skilled aviators; importantly, prior military aviation experience or specific UH-72 qualification is not a prerequisite for consideration.

Key Responsibilities of the Helicopter Pilot (Instructor)

Amentum instructors are entrusted with teaching, coaching, and mentoring student pilots through rigorous training programs specifically designed to prepare them for their future roles as military aviators. While acknowledging the inherent risks associated with flight training, Amentum maintains an unwavering commitment to safety, which remains paramount in every facet of its Rotary Wing Flight Training culture.

Demonstrating an unprecedented safety record with over 2.5 million hours of flight instruction, Amentum instructors conduct essential flight training operations within an extensive area encompassing more than 40,000 square miles of the National Airspace System.

Minimum Pilot Qualifications

Candidates for the Helicopter Pilot (Instructor) position must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:

  • Possession of an ICAO equivalent or FAA commercial pilot certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA flight instructor certificate. Both certificates must include rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings. Alternatively, applicants may be graduates of any Department of Defense (DOD) rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft.
  • Total Flight Time: A minimum of 1,500 hours. Creditable flight time includes pilot-in-command or second-in-command hours (per FAR 61.51), or Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) hours (per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category.
  • Instrument Time: A certified combination of 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
  • Instrument Instruction Experience: Demonstrated experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
  • Night Flying: A minimum of 75 hours.
  • Instructor Time: A minimum of 500 hours.
  • Medical Certificate: Must hold a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to commencing training.
  • For Basic Warfighter Skills Applicants: Must be certified Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and possess 200 hours of NVG time.
  • Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to provide verifiable proof of such authorization.

Important Considerations

Applicants are subject to Government approval and the terms of a 12-month Employee Agreement upon hire.
