Instructor Pilot

Amentum is currently accepting applications for the position of Instructor Pilot. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the training of future Army helicopter pilots at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Rucker, Alabama, the world's largest rotary wing flight school. Amentum partners with the Army to provide comprehensive training to a multinational student population.

Role Overview:

The Instructor Pilot will provide instruction in the UH-72 helicopter, guiding undergraduate student pilots through a rigorous training program encompassing aviation theory, simulator instruction, and actual flight training. The program prioritizes safety, with an outstanding record of more than 2.3 million hours of flight instruction. Instruction takes place in shifts across a vast training area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in the UH-72 helicopter.
  • Provide comprehensive training in aviation theory, simulator procedures, and flight techniques.
  • Emphasize safety as the utmost priority in all training operations.
  • Develop leadership skills in student pilots, preparing them for future combat scenarios.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to all training protocols.
  • Operate within a multi-national training environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must hold an ICAO equivalent or FAA commercial pilot certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA flight instructor certificate, both with rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings, or be a graduate of any DOD rotary wing instructor pilot course.
  • Possesses a minimum of 1500 hours of total flight time. This includes time as pilot-in-command or second-in-command as defined by FAR 61.51, or as Pilot in Command (PC) or Pilot (PI) as defined by AR 95-1, in aircraft of any weight or category.
  • Demonstrates a combined total of 100 hours of instrument flight time, encompassing hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or actual weather pilot time.
  • Has prior experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
  • Has a minimum of 75 hours of night flying experience.
  • Has accrued at least 500 hours of instructor time.
  • Must hold a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to beginning MOI training.
  • Must not exceed 250 pounds while wearing a flight duty uniform.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Important Considerations:

  • Applicants selected for employment are subject to Government approval and the terms of a 12-month Employee Training Agreement.
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check.
  • Successful candidates must complete training and a government acceptance checkride.
  • Military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is not required.
