Helicopter Pilot Instructor – Fort Novosel, Alabama
Amentum is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Helicopter Pilot Instructor to join our team at Fort Novosel, Alabama. This critical role involves training the next generation of Army helicopter pilots within the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence, a globally renowned institution responsible for graduating approximately 1,000 pilots annually. Successful candidates will contribute to Amentum’s long-standing partnership with the U.S. Army, delivering exceptional instruction and maintaining the program’s unparalleled safety record of over 2.3 million flight instruction hours.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive flight instruction in the UH-72 helicopter, encompassing both theoretical and practical training.
- Guide undergraduate student pilots through rigorous training programs, preparing them for the demands of combat operations.
- Foster a safe and effective learning environment, upholding the program’s exceptional safety standards.
- Develop leadership skills within student pilots, recognizing the importance of effective command in high-pressure situations.
- Contribute to a multinational training environment, collaborating effectively with diverse student populations and Army personnel.
Qualifications:
- Possession of an ICAO equivalent or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA Flight Instructor Certificate, with rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings on both certificates. Alternatively, graduation from a DOD rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft is acceptable.
- Minimum 1500 hours total flight time, with a significant portion as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Pilot (PI) per FAR 61.51 or AR 95-1.
- 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
- Proven experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
- Minimum 75 hours of night flying experience.
- Minimum 500 hours of instructor experience.
- Current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate (prior to commencing training).
- Maximum weight of 250 pounds in flight duty uniform.
- Successful completion of a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Additional Considerations:
This position requires Government approval and adherence to a 12-month Employee Training Agreement. Selected candidates will undergo and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and complete a government acceptance checkride. Prior military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is not mandatory. The training program operates on a shift basis, encompassing extended hours.
