Amentum is seeking dedicated F/A-18 Plane Captains (Aircraft Workers) to support U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations for F/A-18 Hornet aircraft at NAS Oceana, VA. This vital role involves comprehensive flight line servicing and ground support, ensuring the operational readiness of F/A-18 aircraft.
About the Role
The F/A-18 Plane Captain, or Aircraft Worker, is crucial for U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance at NAS Oceana, VA. Responsibilities encompass directing F/A-18 aircraft, securing them, and performing comprehensive flight line servicing, including fuel/oil replenishment, pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections, and detailed documentation. This role involves operating ground support equipment (electrical power supplies, tow tractors, engine starters), checking tire pressure, assisting with aircraft towing, and maintaining aircraft cleanliness. The position requires rotating shifts, potential overtime up to 7 days/40 hours weekly, and travel for detachments both ashore and afloat on aircraft carriers. All Aircraft Workers must obtain Plane Captain certification via a government-approved process.
Requirements

Ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments, both ashore and afloat (aircraft carriers).

High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum two (2) years of recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience is desired.

Possess a valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's License (if North Carolina resident).

Mandatory knowledge and use of special tools/equipment for assigned maintenance tasks.

Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.

Must meet physical requirements, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping, and pass related medical examinations.

Ability to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, favorable fingerprints in EQIP, and obtain a Security Clearance for Public Trust.

Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization, requiring US Citizenship for this work location.
Qualifications

Prior experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director is preferred.

Completion of military aviation maintenance training or a maintenance technical school curriculum is preferred.

Possession of an FAA-issued Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license is preferred.

Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation on F/A-18 aircraft is highly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
Amentum offers a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits. The hourly rate for this position is $35.36, supplemented by an additional $7.80 per hour for Health & Welfare (up to 40 hours weekly).
