Job Title: Plane Captain / Line Mechanic

Location: Chantilly, Virginia (Global Operations)

Amentum is seeking a professional Plane Captain/Line Mechanic to perform critical aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This role is essential in supporting flight line operations, ensuring the safety and readiness of aircraft through meticulous maintenance, technical guidance, and adherence to rigorous safety standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform daily, turn-around, and pre-operational inspections according to established technical procedures.
  • Initiate and complete all required maintenance documentation and forms.
  • Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Manage aircraft launch and recovery operations, including serving as a taxi director.
  • Execute aircraft towing and act as a brake rider when required.
  • Secure and cover aircraft using approved procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members.
  • Operate two-way communication equipment and portable firefighting apparatus.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Uphold industrial safety regulations and maintain the security and preservation of company and government equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, professional work environment and provide excellent customer service.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft handling, marshaling, servicing, common hand tools, and safety manuals.
  • Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and lift/pull up to 70 pounds.
  • Normal vision (including color/depth perception) and hearing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required).
  • Must complete and maintain biannual Plane Captain certification and qualify on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
  • Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S platforms.
  • Prior training in Hazardous Waste Communications, FOD/TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000, and Operational Risk Management (ORM).
  • Licensing for support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Rate: $55.75 (Set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
