Position Overview: Plane Captain - Line Mechanic
Amentum is seeking a professional Plane Captain - Line Mechanic to perform essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. The successful candidate will provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to personnel while ensuring adherence to strict safety and operational protocols. This position plays a critical role in the launch, recovery, and maintenance of aircraft within a professional aviation environment.
Essential Responsibilities

Perform daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.

Initiate and complete required maintenance documentation.

Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing per established protocols.

Execute launch and recovery operations, including serving as an aircraft taxi director.

Perform aircraft towing duties and act as a brake rider as required.

Secure aircraft using established tie-down and cover procedures.

Provide technical assistance and instruction to team members.

Operate two-way communication equipment and portable firefighting apparatus.

Maintain strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.

Ensure the safety, security, and preservation of company and government assets.

Maintain a clean work environment and provide professional customer service.
Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance or flight line operations.

Valid Driver’s License.

Must be a U.S. citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret US Government Clearance.

Must be able to obtain/maintain all required government and company licenses and certifications.

Proficiency in the English language (read, write, and communicate).

Thorough knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, handling, marshaling, and safety manuals.

Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, and lift/pull up to 70 pounds.

Visual acuity requirements: close, color, and peripheral vision with depth perception.

Must complete and maintain semi-annual Plane Captain certification and T/M/S qualifications.

Flexibility to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Direct experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, or MH-60S aircraft.

Prior certification in Hazardous Waste, FOD/TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000, and Operational Risk Management (ORM).

Licensed operation of support equipment, including tow tractors, nitrogen carts, and engine start units.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Rate:
$55.75 (Set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
