Position Overview: Plane Captain

The Plane Captain is responsible for comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This role ensures the operational readiness and safety of aircraft through daily and turnaround inspections, launch and recovery operations, and technical guidance. The successful candidate will maintain adherence to stringent safety, security, and maintenance protocols.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties, including daily and turnaround inspections.
  • Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct aircraft launch and recovery operations, including serving as a taxi director.
  • Perform towing operations and serve as an aircraft brake rider as required.
  • Secure aircraft through proper tie-down and covering procedures.
  • Initiate and complete necessary maintenance documentation and forms.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Maintain safety and security of all company and government-owned equipment.
  • Operate portable firefighting equipment and maintain work center cleanliness.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and professional customer service.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance or flight line operations.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required).
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and follow detailed instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, maintenance manuals, handling, servicing, marshaling, and common hand tools.
  • Physical ability to climb, bend, squat, reach, and lift/push/pull up to 70 pounds.
  • Visual requirements include color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment; must have normal hearing range.
  • Must obtain and maintain all required government/company licenses and certifications.
  • Must complete and maintain semi-annual Plane Captain certification.
  • Prior military personnel must provide a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable discharge.
  • Must be available to work all assigned shifts and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft.
  • Certifications in Hazardous Waste Communications, FOD/TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000, and Operational Risk Management (ORM).
  • Licensure for support equipment (tow tractors, nitrogen carts, engine wash/start units).

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Rate: $50.66 (Set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
