Overview

A highly skilled and dedicated Aviation Plane Captain is sought to oversee critical aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection operations. This vital role ensures the operational readiness and airworthiness of aircraft, while also providing essential pre-operational inspections and fueling of ground support equipment. The successful candidate will offer technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to junior team members, including Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers, fostering a culture of excellence and safety on the flight line.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in strict adherence to established procedures.
  • Initiates and meticulously completes all applicable aircraft maintenance forms and documentation.
  • Conducts essential aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with specified protocols.
  • Manages aircraft launch and recovery procedures, acting as a pivotal aircraft taxi director during these operations.
  • Executes precise aircraft towing maneuvers and serves as an aircraft brake rider when necessary.
  • Secures aircraft by performing tie-downs and covering procedures utilizing established guidelines.
  • Provides expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to colleagues, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and development.
  • Operates two-way communication equipment effectively during flight line activities.
  • Ensures rigorous compliance with all aviation safety programs, including Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control protocols.
  • Upholds all general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and specific job assignments.
  • Safeguards government and company-owned equipment, ensuring its security and preservation.
  • Delivers consistently courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Operates portable firefighting equipment competently.
  • Maintains an exceptionally clean and organized work center.
  • Undertakes other assigned duties to support flight line and aviation operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Possession of at least two (2) years of proven experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • A valid Driver’s License is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required company or government qualifications, certifications, licensing, or security clearances.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate fluently in the English language, following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, the use of common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements specific to aircraft.
  • Availability to work any assigned shift and schedule, demonstrating flexibility in operational demands.
  • Capability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unspecified duration.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Physical Demands:

The role of Aviation Plane Captain is physically demanding, requiring a broad range of movements and postures associated with shop, hangar, and flight line maintenance activities. This includes frequent bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in various strenuous or uncomfortable positions. Candidates must possess excellent eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. The ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 pounds, walk, and stand on diverse surfaces for extended periods throughout the day is essential. Close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required, alongside normal range hearing. Respirator use may be necessary.

Work Environment:

The work environment can vary significantly, ranging from comfortable indoor conditions to outdoor settings where individuals may be exposed to severe temperature changes, wind, and rain. The position may involve working in areas where high noise hazards prevail and potential exposure to electrical shock hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
