Overview

Amentum is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plane Captain to join our expert aviation maintenance team. This pivotal role involves comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection operations on the flight line. The Plane Captain is entrusted with ensuring the operational readiness and safety of various aircraft, performing detailed pre-operational inspections, managing ground support equipment, and providing essential technical guidance. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts daily and turn-around aircraft inspections in strict accordance with applicable procedures and technical manuals.
  • Initiates, accurately completes, and manages all requisite maintenance forms and documentation.
  • Executes aircraft fuel sampling and servicing procedures, adhering rigorously to established guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Manages the seamless launch and recovery of aircraft, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Directs aircraft taxi operations during critical launch and recovery phases, maintaining clear and precise communication.
  • Performs professional aircraft towing and serves as a qualified aircraft brake rider when required.
  • Secures aircraft efficiently through proper tie-down and covering protocols, protecting valuable assets from environmental factors.
  • Offers expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members as needed, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable environment.
  • Operates two-way communication equipment effectively to ensure coordinated flight line activities.
  • Ensures stringent adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Upholds full compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and specific job assignment.
  • Safeguards government and company-owned equipment, ensuring its safety, security, and optimal preservation.
  • Delivers exceptional and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Operates portable firefighting equipment competently in emergency situations.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the work center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested, contributing to overall operational success and team objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary government and company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances for the position.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating effectively in the English language, with the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and correctly.
  • Comprehensive understanding of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of various aircraft types.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties including climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, with the ability to push or pull weights up to seventy (70) pounds.
  • Must possess excellent close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear at a normal range, essential for effective communication and safety.
  • Successful completion of a rigorous training program and certification in writing as a Plane Captain, with a requirement to re-qualify semi-annually.
  • Must be qualified on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S aircraft is strongly preferred.
  • Possession of relevant licensing and certifications, including:
    • Hazardous Waste Communications Training
    • FOD (Foreign Object Damage) and TCP (Tool Control Program) Awareness Training
    • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
    • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
  • Licensed on various support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Excellent eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Comfort with the potential requirement to use a respirator.

Compensation & Benefits

The hiring hourly rate of pay for this position is $50.66, as set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) or Service Contract Act (SCA).
