Plane Captain (Aviation Operations)
Overview
A highly skilled and dedicated Plane Captain is sought to manage critical aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection operations within a dynamic aviation environment. This role involves meticulous pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and providing expert technical guidance to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications. The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and meticulous daily and turnaround inspections according to applicable procedures.
- Executes pre-operational inspections and fuels ground support equipment.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees in the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Initiates and completes all applicable maintenance forms and documentation.
- Conducts aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
- Manages aircraft launch and recovery operations, including serving as aircraft taxi director.
- Tows aircraft and acts as aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secures aircraft by tying down and covering using established procedures.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment for effective coordination.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Upholds all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintains the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment as needed.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the work center.
- Performs other qualified and assigned duties as requested.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, coupled with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Physical capability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, as well as push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Must have close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear at the normal range.
- Successful completion of a training program and written certification as a Plane Captain is mandatory, with re-qualification required semi-annually.
- Required to be qualified on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Possession of relevant licensing and certification, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP (Tool Control Program) Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
- Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator if required for specific tasks.
Compensation & Benefits
Hiring Hourly Rate: $50.66 (Hourly rate set by [CBA / SCA])
