Plane Captain
Overview
A Plane Captain is sought to manage critical aircraft operations, ensuring the meticulous handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft. This role encompasses performing daily and turn-around inspections, conducting pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and providing essential technical guidance and instruction.
Essential Responsibilities
The Plane Captain will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities vital to flight line operations, including but not limited to:
- Executing daily and turn-around aircraft inspections in strict adherence to established procedures.
- Initiating and accurately completing all required maintenance documentation and forms.
- Conducting aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with specified protocols.
- Directing the launch and recovery of aircraft, including serving as an aircraft taxi director.
- Performing aircraft towing operations and acting as an aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Securing aircraft by tying down and covering them according to standard procedures.
- Offering technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members.
- Operating two-way communication equipment effectively during operations.
- Ensuring rigorous compliance with critical safety and operational programs, including Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control.
- Upholding all general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and specific job assignments.
- Safeguarding the security and preservation of all government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivering professional and courteous customer service.
- Operating portable firefighting equipment in emergency situations.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the work center.
- Performing additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for the Plane Captain position must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- The ability to obtain and maintain all necessary government and company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances pertinent to the role.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in English, and the capacity to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety and maintenance manuals.
- Extensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, the use of common hand tools, and adherence to normal operational safety requirements for aircraft.
- Physical capability to perform duties requiring climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing or pulling weights up to 70 pounds.
- Adequate vision, including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal hearing range is required.
- Successful completion of a Plane Captain training program and subsequent written certification, with semi-annual re-qualification.
- Qualification on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Availability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Highly desirable qualifications for this role include:
- Demonstrated experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S aircraft platforms.
- Possession of specific certifications and training, such as:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training.
- Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and Tool Control Program (TCP) Awareness Training.
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness.
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensing for various support equipment, including tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Proficiency in tasks that may involve handling hazardous materials.
- Excellent eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- The ability to use a respirator, if required by specific tasks.
HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay: $50.66 (Hourly rate set by [CBA / SCA])
