Aviation Plane Captain
Position Summary
The Aviation Plane Captain is a vital member of the flight line team, responsible for executing comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection procedures. This role encompasses performing essential pre-operational inspections, fueling ground support equipment, and providing critical technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to junior personnel, including Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of safety, operational readiness, and compliance within a dynamic aviation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Executes all duties and responsibilities associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in strict adherence to applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes all required maintenance forms and documentation accurately.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing procedures in compliance with established regulations.
- Facilitates aircraft launch and recovery operations, ensuring efficiency and safety.
- Serves as an aircraft taxi director, guiding movements during launch and recovery operations.
- Performs aircraft towing and acts as a qualified aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secures and covers aircraft utilizing established procedures to protect assets.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members as needed.
- Operates two-way communication equipment effectively to coordinate flight line activities.
- Ensures stringent compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Upholds adherence to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintains the safety, security, and preservation of all government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment effectively during emergencies.
- Ensures the cleanliness and organizational integrity of the work center.
- Executes other qualified duties as assigned to support overall operational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances required for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, including the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable aviation safety and maintenance manuals.
- In-depth working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, common hand tools, and aircraft operational safety requirements.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, as well as push or pull weights up to 70 pounds.
- Excellent close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal range hearing.
- Successful completion of a Plane Captain training program and written certification, with semi-annual re-qualification required.
- Qualification on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Availability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Desired Qualifications
- Strongly preferred experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH-60 aircraft.
- Certifications in Hazardous Waste Communications Training.
- Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and Tool Control Program (TCP) Awareness training.
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness.
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) training.
- Licensure on support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Demonstrated eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to wear a respirator if required.
- Experience or training in handling hazardous materials.
