Amentum is seeking dedicated and skilled F/A-18 Plane Captains to support U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational readiness of F/A-18 aircraft through comprehensive flight line support and maintenance activities. This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments, both ashore and afloat, including deployments aboard aircraft carriers.
The Aircraft Worker, upon achieving government-approved Plane Captain certification, performs a variety of essential flight line tasks. This includes directing incoming and outgoing aircraft movement on the ground using hand or light signals and securing aircraft in parking positions with chocks and tie downs. The role encompasses aircraft flight line servicing, operating service vehicles for fuel and oil replenishment, and conducting pre-flight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. The Plane Captain documents servicing performed in maintenance records, checks for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains, and operates ground support equipment such as electrical power supplies, tow tractors, and engine starting units. Additional duties involve examining tires for specified air pressure and condition, assisting in towing aircraft, and cleaning aircraft exteriors and interiors. Periodic housekeeping on the hangar deck and cleaning fluid spills using portable platform ladders, brushes, rags, water hoses, cleaning compound applicators, and mobile vacuums are also required. This work may involve shifts up to 7 days per week and over 40 hours, depending on operational tempo.
Work is primarily performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
The position requires passing and maintaining a U.S. Government background security check and favorable fingerprints in EQIP. Completion of an SF-85/86 in EQIP may be required to maintain possession of a CAC card. An unfavorable background check may result in termination if eligibility for a CAC identification cannot be determined.
