A successful Plane Captain is responsible for comprehensive aircraft handling and servicing, including required daily and turnaround inspections. This role involves conducting pre-operational inspections and fueling of ground support equipment. The Plane Captain also provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members in Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper roles.
Physical Demands: The classification activity requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with shop, hanger, and flight line maintenance activities, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions. Ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is required. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 70 pounds. Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day. Must have close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear at the normal range is necessary. May require the use of a respirator.
Work Environment: The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
