Plane Captain
The Plane Captain is responsible for the comprehensive handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft. This role involves performing daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures, conducting pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and providing technical assistance and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Executes duties consistent with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper roles.
- Conducts daily and turnaround aircraft inspections as required by applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes necessary maintenance documentation.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
- Manages aircraft launch and recovery operations.
- Directs aircraft taxiing during launch and recovery.
- Tows aircraft and serves as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft through proper tying down and covering procedures.
- Offers technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Guarantees the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Provides professional and courteous customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness and order within the work center.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements.
- Physical capability to perform tasks requiring climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
- Must have close vision capabilities, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Successful completion of a training program and written certification as a Plane Captain is required, with semi-annual re-qualification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship is required).
- Must be qualified on all assigned aircraft types (T/M/S).
- Prior military personnel must provide a member 4 DD214 indicating an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Availability to work all assigned shifts and schedules is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Relevant licensing and certification requirements, including Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness Training, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensing to operate support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Experience handling hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator if required.
Compensation & Benefits:
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $50.66 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package.
