Job Summary:
Amentum is seeking a skilled and experienced Plane Captain. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties, including daily and turn-around inspections as required. This role involves conducting pre-operational inspections, fueling ground support equipment, and providing crucial technical assistance and guidance on the flight line.
Responsibilities:
- Performs duties typically associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turn-around inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes necessary maintenance forms.
- Executes aircraft fuel sampling and servicing procedures as established.
- Manages aircraft launch and recovery operations.
- Serves as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery.
- Performs aircraft towing and acts as aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secures and covers aircraft using established tie-down procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Requires a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government or company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances for the position.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Possesses thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements.
- Physical capability to perform tasks requiring climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, and the ability to push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Requires close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear at the normal range.
- Must successfully complete a training program and obtain written certification as a Plane Captain, with required semi-annual re-qualification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. (Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance).
- Must be qualified on all assigned aircraft types/models/series (T/M/S).
- Prior military personnel are required to present a Member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Possession of relevant licensing/certifications, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart and engine start unit, etc.
- Experience handling hazardous materials.
- Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator if required.
Compensation & Benefits:
The hiring hourly range for this position is $50.66. The final hourly rate will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
