Plane Captain
The Plane Captain plays a vital role in aviation operations, primarily responsible for aircraft handling, servicing, and conducting essential daily and turnaround inspections. This position also involves providing pre-operational inspections and fueling for ground support equipment, alongside offering technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performing duties associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducting daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiating and completing necessary maintenance forms.
- Performing aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required by established procedures.
- Launching and recovering aircraft.
- Serving as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Towing aircraft and acting as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Tying down and covering aircraft using established procedures.
- Providing technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
- Utilizing two-way communication equipment as required.
- Ensuring compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensuring compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensuring the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Providing courteous and professional customer service.
- Operating portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the work center.
- Performing other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must possess two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must hold a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Capability to read, write, understand, and communicate in the English language and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Must have close vision including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear at the normal range.
- Successful completion of a training program and written certification as a Plane Captain, with required semi-annual re-qualification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. (Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance).
- Required to be qualified on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
- Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Possession of relevant licenses and certifications, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
- Ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator, if required.
Compensation & Benefits:
The hiring hourly range for this position is $50.66. The final hourly rate will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
