Plane Captain
Overview
Amentum is seeking a skilled and dedicated Plane Captain to perform essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the readiness and operational capability of assigned aircraft by conducting daily and turnaround inspections, providing technical assistance, and managing ground support equipment. This position requires a meticulous professional with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence on the flight line.
Essential Responsibilities
- Performs the duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes required maintenance forms accurately and promptly.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing according to established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft, including serving as aircraft taxi director.
- Tows aircraft and acts as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures and covers aircraft using established procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified and position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Requires a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Possesses thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, and be able to push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Requires close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to hear within the normal range.
- Must successfully complete a training program and obtain written certification as a Plane Captain, with required semi-annual re-qualification.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Security Clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Must be qualified on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
- Prior military personnel must provide a Member 4 DD214 demonstrating an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, and/or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Relevant licensing and certification requirements may include:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, engine start unit, etc.
- May involve handling hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
- Ability to utilize strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May require the use of a respirator.
