Plane Captain
A skilled and dedicated Plane Captain is sought to perform essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This role involves conducting daily and turn-around inspections, providing pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and offering technical assistance and guidance. The Plane Captain is a key contributor to flight line operations, ensuring the readiness and safety of aircraft and support equipment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Executes duties aligning with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Performs daily and turn-around inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiates and finalizes necessary maintenance forms.
- Conducts aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required by established procedures.
- Responsible for launching and recovering aircraft.
- Directs aircraft taxiing during launch and recovery phases.
- Tows aircraft and serves as aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft with tie-downs and covers utilizing established procedures.
- Provides required technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.
- Operates two-way communication equipment as needed.
- Ensures strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Guarantees compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintains the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization within the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must hold a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government or company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, including the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements for aircraft.
- Physical ability to perform tasks including climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, with the capacity to push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Must possess adequate close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Successful completion of a training program and written certification as a Plane Captain, with required semi-annual re-qualification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is mandatory to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Required to be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Prior military personnel must provide a Member 4 DD214 demonstrating an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Availability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Relevant licensing and certification requirements, such as:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment including tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
- Ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May be required to handle hazardous materials during duty performance.
- May require the use of a respirator.
