Amentum is seeking dedicated F/A-18 Plane Captains to support U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA.
The Plane Captain plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational readiness of F/A-18 aircraft. This position involves servicing aircraft and performing various tasks to support flight operations. Responsibilities include directing incoming and outgoing aircraft using hand or light signals to assist pilots with ground maneuvering, and securing aircraft in parking positions with chocks and tie-downs.
Aircraft servicing duties encompass operating service vehicles for fuel and oil replenishment, conducting pre-flight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and documenting servicing activities in maintenance records. The Plane Captain checks for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains and operates ground support equipment such as electrical power supplies, tow tractors, and engine starting units. The role also involves examining tire pressure and condition, assisting in aircraft towing, and maintaining cleanliness of the aircraft exterior and interior. Periodic hangar deck housekeeping and fluid spill cleanup using appropriate equipment are also required. This position may involve working up to 7 days a week and over 40 hours depending on operational tempo, including mandatory rotating shifts and travel for detachments, both ashore and afloat on aircraft carriers.
Candidates must successfully pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and favorable fingerprints. Completion of an SF-85/86 in EQIP may be required to maintain possession of a Common Access Card (CAC). Eligibility for a CAC is essential; an unfavorable background check could result in termination if eligibility is not met. Successful candidates will undergo Plane Captain certification in accordance with a Government-approved process.
The work is primarily performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
