F/A-18 Plane Captain
Amentum is seeking qualified F/A-18 Plane Captains to support U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for aircraft servicing and maintenance tasks, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft. This role requires flexibility and the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments.
Responsibilities:
- Directs incoming and outgoing aircraft, assisting pilots with maneuvering on the ground using hand or light signals.
- Secures aircraft in parking positions with chocks and tie-downs.
- Performs aircraft flight line servicing, including replenishing fuel and oil.
- Conducts pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections.
- Documents servicing performed in maintenance records.
- Checks for fuel contamination.
- Operates ground support equipment, such as electrical power supplies, tow tractors, and engine starting units.
- Examines tires for specified air pressure and condition.
- Assists in towing aircraft.
- Cleans the exterior and interior of aircraft.
- Maintains hanger deck housekeeping and cleans fluid spills.
- Becomes Plane Captain certified IAW a government approved certification process.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience.
- Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's License (if North Carolina resident).
- Knowledge and proficiency in using special tools and equipment required for assigned maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be a self-motivator capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements associated with the position. This includes standing, climbing, bending, and stooping.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, including favorable fingerprints in EQIP.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
- Shift work and detachments are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, Move Director certifications or experience.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA-issued A&P license.
- Prior U.S. Navy aviation experience on F/A-18 aircraft.
