Aviation Job Description: Plane Captain
Amentum is seeking a skilled Plane Captain to perform aircraft handling and servicing, as well as conduct daily and turnaround inspections as required. The successful candidate will provide pre-operational inspections and fuel ground support equipment, offering technical assistance and guidance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs duties and responsibilities of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround inspections according to applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes necessary maintenance forms.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing, adhering to established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft.
- Serves as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Tows aircraft and acts as aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secures and covers aircraft using established procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment.
- Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensures adherence to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintains the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned.
- Completes all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is required.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Must obtain and maintain all required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, push, or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Must have close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Must successfully complete a training program and be certified in writing as a plane captain, with a requirement to re-qualify semi-annually.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Must be qualified on all assigned T/M/S.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Licensing certification in Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensed on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, and engine start unit.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties.
- Demonstrated eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Experience using a respirator.
