F/A-18 Plane Captain
Amentum is seeking highly motivated and skilled F/A-18 Plane Captains to support U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia. This role requires the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments. The Aircraft Worker will undergo a government-approved certification process to become a Plane Captain.
Primary responsibilities include servicing aircraft, directing aircraft movement near terminal or flight line parking areas, securing aircraft with chocks and tie-downs, and performing pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections. The Aircraft Worker will also operate service vehicles, replenish fuel and oil, check for fuel contamination, operate ground support equipment, examine tire pressure, assist in towing aircraft, and maintain the cleanliness of the aircraft and hangar deck. This position may require work up to 7 days and 40 hours per week, with potential for overtime based on operational demands.
The candidate must successfully pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and fingerprinting in EQIP. Completion of an SF-85/86 in EQIP may be required to maintain possession of a CAC card. An unfavorable background check may lead to termination if CAC card eligibility is not met.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two years of recent organizational-level aircraft maintenance experience, and a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the use of special tools and equipment necessary for assigned maintenance tasks. The work environment is primarily outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions, loud noise, and exhaust fumes. The ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals is essential. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work effectively with minimal supervision, is able to meet physical requirements, and can obtain required security clearances and facility credentials.
Preferred qualifications include experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director. Completion of military aviation maintenance training, maintenance technical school, or possession of an FAA A&P license is highly preferred. Prior experience with U.S. Navy F/A-18 aircraft maintenance is strongly desired.
