Amentum is seeking highly motivated individuals to fill the role of F/A-18 Plane Captain in support of U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia. This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments. Successful candidates will undergo a government-approved certification process to become Plane Captain certified.

The Aircraft Worker will be responsible for servicing aircraft, including directing incoming and outgoing aircraft using hand or light signals, and securing aircraft with chocks and tie-downs. Additional responsibilities include aircraft flight line servicing, operating service vehicles for refueling and oil replenishment, performing pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections, documenting servicing activities, checking for fuel contamination, and operating ground support equipment such as electrical power supply and tow tractors. Furthermore, duties encompass examining tire conditions, assisting in aircraft towing, cleaning aircraft interiors and exteriors, and maintaining hangar deck cleanliness. This position may require working up to 7 days and 40 hours per week, with overtime depending on operational needs.

Candidates must successfully pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, including favorable fingerprints in EQIP. Completion of an SF-85/86 in EQIP may be required to maintain a CAC card. An unfavorable background check may result in termination.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two (2) years of recent organizational level aircraft maintenance experience, and a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license (if a North Carolina resident). A thorough understanding and use of special tools and equipment are mandatory, as is the ability to interpret technical publications, safety regulations, and maintenance procedures. The role demands self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidates must meet physical requirements and pass any necessary medical examinations. This position requires a considerable amount of standing, climbing, bending, and stooping and it is primarily performed outdoors, exposing personnel to varying weather conditions, loud noises, and exhaust fumes. Additionally, a successful 7-year background check and a Security Clearance for Public Trust are required through the Contractor Verification system, alongside the ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred qualifications include experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director. Military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA issued A&P license is also preferred, with prior U.S. Navy aviation experience on F/A-18 aircraft being highly advantageous.
