Amentum is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, supporting U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA. This role requires the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments. The selected candidate will undergo a Government-approved certification process to become a certified Plane Captain.
The Aircraft Worker will service aircraft, directing incoming and outgoing aircraft using hand or light signals, securing them with chocks and tie-downs. They will perform aircraft flight line servicing, operate service vehicles for refueling and oil replenishment, conduct pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections, and meticulously document servicing performed. They will also be responsible for checking fuel for contamination, operating ground support equipment, inspecting tires, assisting in aircraft towing, and maintaining the cleanliness of aircraft interiors and exteriors, as well as hanger areas. This position may require work up to 7 days a week and 40 hours, with potential overtime based on operational needs.
A successful candidate must pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, including favorable fingerprints in EQIP and potentially complete a SF-85/86 in EQIP to obtain a CAC card. An unfavorable background check may result in termination.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two years of recent organizational-level aircraft maintenance experience, a valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's License, and knowledge of special tools and equipment necessary for assigned maintenance tasks. The role is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes. The ability to interpret technical publications, safety rules, and maintenance procedures is crucial. Candidates should be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision, meet physical requirements, and be able to obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification System, including a 7-year background check and obtain a Security Clearance for Public Trust. U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location. The position involves a significant amount of standing, climbing, bending, and stooping.
Preferred qualifications include experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director, completion of military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA A&P license. Prior U.S. Navy aviation experience on F/A-18 aircraft is highly preferred.
