Plane Captain - Aviation Maintenance Professional

Overview:

The successful Plane Captain is a highly skilled professional responsible for the meticulous handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft. This role encompasses daily and turnaround inspections, pre-operational checks, and the provision of technical assistance and guidance. The Plane Captain also ensures the proper fueling of ground support equipment and plays a critical role in maintaining aircraft readiness and safety.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
  • Conducts thorough daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures.
  • Accurately initiates and completes all required maintenance forms.
  • Performs precise aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in strict accordance with established protocols.
  • Oversees the safe launch and recovery of aircraft.
  • Directs aircraft taxiing operations during launch and recovery.
  • Executes aircraft towing operations and acts as aircraft brake rider when required.
  • Ensures secure tie-down and covering of aircraft using established procedures.
  • Provides expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
  • Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively to maintain operational awareness.
  • Ensures strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Adheres rigorously to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
  • Maintains the utmost safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
  • Provides courteous and professional customer service at all times.
  • Operates portable firefighting equipment as necessary.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the work center.
  • Performs other qualified duties as assigned to support operational needs.
  • Executes all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain any government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances required for the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language, including following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety and maintenance manuals is essential.
  • Extensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements for aircraft.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing or pulling weight up to (70) pounds.
  • Must possess close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must possess hearing within the normal range.
  • Successful completion of the Plane Captain training program and written certification are required, with mandatory semi-annual re-qualification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite for obtaining a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
  • Must be able to work all assigned shifts and schedules, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, F-16 aircraft is highly preferred.
  • Possession of the following licenses and certifications:
    • Hazardous Waste Communications Training
    • FOD and TCP Awareness Training
    • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
    • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
    • Licensed on support equipment, such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials in performance of duties
  • Demonstrated ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • May require the use of respirator.
