Plane Captain
Job Overview:
The Plane Captain executes comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection procedures, encompassing daily and turnaround checks. He/She ensures thorough pre-operational inspections, manages the fueling of ground support equipment, and delivers adept technical assistance and guidance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs all duties and responsibilities associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures.
- Initiates and completes necessary maintenance forms with precision.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in compliance with established protocols.
- Oversees the launch and recovery of aircraft, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Directs aircraft taxiing during launch and recovery, maintaining operational safety.
- Tows aircraft and serves as an aircraft brake rider as required, upholding safety standards.
- Secures and covers aircraft using designated procedures.
- Provides expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment to ensure effective coordination.
- Maintains strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Upholds all general and industrial safety regulations, complying with contract, facility, and job assignment requirements.
- Safeguards government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers professional and courteous customer service at all times.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment to maintain a safe environment.
- Ensures the work center is maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
- Performs all other qualified duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability.
- Completes all other job-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possesses a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Accumulates a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Holds a valid Driver’s License.
- Secures and maintains all required government and/or company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for this position.
- Demonstrates proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language and following verbal and written instructions.
- Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Possesses thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Exhibits the ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, as well as push or pull weights up to (70) pounds.
- Maintains clear close vision, including color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Possesses normal hearing capabilities.
- Completes and achieves certification as a plane captain, and recertifies semi-annually as required.
- Obtains and maintains a Secret US Government Clearance, US citizenship required.
- Qualified on all assigned T/M/S.
- Demonstrates the ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, and F-16 aircraft is highly desirable.
- Holds certifications in:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Is licensed on support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Has experience handling hazardous materials within the scope of assigned duties.
- Demonstrates the ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- May require the use of a respirator.
