Plane Captain
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and experienced Plane Captain to perform a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our aircraft. This position demands a meticulous individual capable of handling diverse tasks, from pre-flight inspections to aircraft recovery, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. Responsibilities:
- Execute comprehensive daily and turnaround inspections, adhering strictly to established procedures.
- Complete all applicable maintenance documentation accurately and promptly.
- Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing according to standardized protocols.
- Manage aircraft launch and recovery procedures, including acting as taxi director.
- Safely tow aircraft and serve as aircraft brake rider as needed.
- Secure aircraft using established procedures, including tying down and covering.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment proficiently.
- Ensure strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Maintain unwavering compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies.
- Protect the safety and security of government and company-owned equipment.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is essential.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Thorough understanding of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift or schedule.
- Willingness to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires a wide range of physical movements common to shop/hanger/flight line maintenance activities, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds, maintain prolonged standing, and possess excellent visual acuity (including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment) is essential. Normal hearing is required. Respiratory protection may be necessary. The work environment may range from comfortable indoor settings to exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles.
