Plane Captain
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and motivated Plane Captain to contribute to our aviation operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft, ensuring adherence to all established safety regulations and company procedures. This role requires a proactive individual capable of providing technical guidance and training to junior team members.
Responsibilities:
- Execute daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures.
- Complete all applicable maintenance documentation accurately and promptly.
- Perform aircraft fueling and sampling, complying with all relevant safety standards.
- Conduct safe and efficient aircraft launch and recovery operations, including acting as taxi director and brake rider as needed.
- Secure aircraft using established procedures, including towing, tying down, and covering.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Maintain strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure adherence to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations.
- Safeguard government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years' experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required company or government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Thorough understanding of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, the use of common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements.
- Ability to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Willingness to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position demands a range of physical movements common to shop/hanger/flight line maintenance, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds, maintain good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, and work for extended periods is essential. Visual acuity, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment, are also critical. Normal hearing range is required. Respirator use may be necessary.
The work environment may vary, from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor areas exposed to inclement weather. Exposure to high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles is possible.
