Plane Captain - F/A-18 Aircraft (NAS Oceana, VA)
Amentum seeks highly motivated and experienced Plane Captains to support U.S. Navy F/A-18 aircraft maintenance operations at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. This critical role involves a diverse range of responsibilities, requiring both meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within a dynamic team environment. Candidates must be prepared for rotating shifts and potential deployments to other locations.
Responsibilities:
The Plane Captain will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of F/A-18 aircraft, encompassing a wide array of duties, including:
- Directing aircraft movement on the flight line using hand signals, ensuring safe maneuvering and parking.
- Securing aircraft using chocks and tie-downs.
- Performing pre- and post-flight inspections according to established procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records of all servicing and maintenance performed.
- Operating ground support equipment such as tow tractors, engine starting units, and fuel servicing vehicles.
- Conducting fuel contamination checks and tire pressure inspections.
- Cleaning aircraft interiors and exteriors.
- Performing routine hangar deck housekeeping.
This role may involve up to 40 hours per week, with potential overtime depending on operational demands.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two years of recent experience in organizational-level aircraft maintenance.
- Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license (depending on residency).
- Proficient in the use of specialized tools and equipment relevant to aircraft maintenance.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including exposure to noise and fumes.
- Capacity to read, interpret, and apply technical publications, safety regulations, and operational manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check and successfully complete Contractor Verification system requirements.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. citizenship is required).
- Ability to pass any required medical examinations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training or a recognized maintenance technical school curriculum.
- Possession of an FAA A&P license.
- Prior experience with U.S. Navy F/A-18 aircraft maintenance.

This position necessitates the ability to work rotating shifts and participate in deployments. Failure to maintain a favorable background check and obtain necessary security clearances may result in termination.
