Plane Captain
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and experienced Plane Captain to join our team. This critical role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities centered on aircraft handling, maintenance, and safety. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to operational excellence and a proactive approach to safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
The Plane Captain will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Conduct daily and turnaround aircraft inspections adhering to established procedures.
- Initiate and complete all necessary maintenance documentation.
- Perform aircraft fueling and sampling, in accordance with established procedures.
- Execute aircraft launching and recovery procedures, acting as taxi director as required.
- Perform aircraft towing and serve as aircraft brake rider as needed.
- Secure aircraft using established procedures, including tying down and covering.
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Maintain adherence to all general and industrial safety regulations.
- Safeguard government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Thorough understanding of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Ability to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Willingness to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of unspecified duration.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position demands physical stamina and the ability to perform a range of movements including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds is required. The role involves extended periods of standing and walking on level and inclined surfaces. Visual acuity, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is essential. Normal hearing range is necessary. Use of a respirator may be required.
The work environment may vary, ranging from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor conditions with exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles.
