Plane Captain
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and experienced Plane Captain to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft, ensuring their readiness for operation. This role demands a proactive approach to safety and maintenance, along with the ability to provide effective guidance and training to supporting personnel.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures, accurately documenting all findings.
- Execute aircraft fueling and sampling procedures in strict adherence to safety regulations.
- Manage aircraft launching and recovery operations, serving as taxi director when necessary.
- Perform aircraft towing and act as a brake rider as required.
- Secure aircraft using established procedures, including proper tie-down and covering.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Maintain strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Uphold all general and industrial safety regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensure the safety, security, and preservation of company and government-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment proficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Thorough understanding of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Willingness to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
This position involves a wide range of physical activities typical of shop/hanger/flight line maintenance, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds is required. Extended periods of standing and walking are also necessary. The role demands good eyesight (including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment), hearing, and hand-eye coordination. Respiratory protection may be required.
The work environment may vary, from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor conditions with exposure to inclement weather. High noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles may be present.
