Plane Captain
Amentum is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Plane Captain to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft, ensuring the highest standards of operational readiness. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of aviation maintenance procedures and a commitment to safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures.
- Initiate and complete all necessary maintenance forms accurately and promptly.
- Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing, adhering strictly to established protocols.
- Execute aircraft launching and recovery operations, acting as taxi director as needed.
- Perform aircraft towing and serve as aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secure aircraft using established procedures, including proper tying down and covering.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and training to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Maintain strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, both general and industry-specific, relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Protect the safety, security, and preservation of company and government-owned equipment.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment proficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, and security clearances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and aircraft operational safety requirements.
- Ability to work any assigned shift and schedule, including the possibility of irregular hours.
- Willingness to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position demands physical stamina and dexterity, requiring bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds may be required. Prolonged standing and walking are necessary. Excellent visual acuity (including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment) and hearing are essential. The use of a respirator may be required. The work environment can vary, from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor exposure to inclement weather and potentially hazardous conditions including high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles.
